Volkswagen continues its path to enter the electric car market triumphantly. The brand already has propositions that can compete with direct competition and has now unveiled another one. We are talking about the Volkswagen ID.7 which guarantees 700 kilometers of autonomy and which can therefore fight Tesla’s Model S.
Autonomy is one of the key components for electric cars. This is one of the most important factors in choosing a new model and the reason why brands can succeed or have problems. Volkswagen has now launched the ID.7, which it wants to be a new standard in this increasingly competitive market.
This model, now offered, was already known from some revelations from the brand itself. Now it is finally revealed, without any camouflage or any other mechanism to keep it hidden or with its most discreet forms for the eyes of potential customers.
From what the brand revealed, this electric car measures 4,961 mm in length and has a wheelbase of 2,966 mm. Without taking into account the exterior mirrors, this new electric Volkswagen is 1,862 mm wide, while the drag coefficient is just 0.23.
The ID.7 is available in two versions: Pro and Pro S. Both have a 285 horsepower (210 kW) electric motor. The Pro model comes with a gross power battery of 82 kWh (77 net kWh) offering an estimated WLTP cycle range of 615 kilometers. The system supports DC charging at 170 kW.
The Pro S model receives a package with a gross capacity of 91 kWh (86 kWh net) which provides an estimated driving distance of 700 km. The DC charging capacity is slightly higher at 200 kW.
Charging time with direct current (10 to 80%) should be only 25 minutes. On the VW ID.4 Pro this time is 29 minutes, but here for a charging range of 5 to 80%. The new ID.3 Pro S takes 30 minutes in the same pattern.
New for this model is the optional panoramic roof with "Smart Glass". It can be changed from transparent to opaque and vice versa at the push of a button and this is possible thanks to a layer of special liquid crystals integrated into the glass, which are arranged under tension in such a way that the glass becomes transparent. Without tension, the glass is opaque.
There is also an infotainment system with a 15-inch screen, which is placed in the middle of this console. Touch-lit sliders let you adjust temperature and sound volume.
The head-up display with augmented reality is a highlight, and the VW ID.7 will also have front seats with 14-position electric adjustment and Climatronic function with temperature and humidity sensors to automatically heat or cool, in addition to ' a massage system in the more expensive versions.
The Volkswagen ID.7 will be built at the Emden factory in Germany and also in China. In Europe and China, this new electric car will be launched in the last quarter of 2023, followed by North America in 2024. In Germany, the ID.7 will be available to order from the middle of this year.
